Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I get a product demo?
Of course. Seeing is believing! We constantly organize interactive online demos. That means you get access to a platform where you can select a box or inlay model, enter the dimension you want and press the start button. Through a webcam we'll show you all the handling on the Slimbox you controlled, but which is standing in our demo room. Just get in touch with us, and we'll set it all up for you.
  • Can the Slimbox be used in the office?
Yes. It was specifically designed to fit both an office and a production environment. Because it has a standard power plug, you do not need to have special equipment. You can either rent a filtering unit, or simply connect the exhaust to a chimney or tube to remove any smoke and smell. The machine does produce some decibels but only when operating at full power. In an office, the printer or mailing room would be the perfect spot.
  • What is Dimensional Weight?
Dimensional weight, also known as volumetric weight or dim weight, is a pricing technique for commercial freight transport (including courier and postal services), which uses an estimated weight that is calculated from the length, width and height of a package. Shipping costs have historically been calculated on the basis of gross weight in kilograms or pounds. Lightweight, low-density packages become unprofitable for freight carriers due to the amount of space they take up in the truck/aircraft/ship in proportion to their actual weight. The concept of dimensional weight has been adopted by the transportation industry worldwide as a uniform means of establishing a minimum charge for the cubic space a package occupies. Every courier or postal service has their own way of determining this weight. More information can be found on the wikipedia page.
  • What does a Slimbox do?
A Slimbox can cut drawings out of corrugated cardboard. It was designed to focus on the creation of boxes and inlays for anyone who needs right sized packaging. The controlling is so easy, that anyone can do it. Just select the model you like, enter the dimensions you need and press start. Thanks to its specifications, the machine can create both very small and very large boxes. In addition, the machine can also work with your own drawings so you can cut out just about any shape or form. In other words, the Slimbox can also be used for your creative projects. See the possibilities of Slimbox.
  • Is the Slimbox a service?
Yes. Thanks to that service, you are not only provided with the right equipment and corrugated cardboard for your needs, but it also takes away a lot of worries. No more running out of boxes, no needs for filler materials (even when the goods can easily break) and no worries about maintenance and support. The Slimbox was built in such a way that it can actually be replaced within minutes.
  • How long does a contract last?
After the initial period, it can be up- or downgraded or even cancelled every single month. No fine print to be found here.
  • How long is the initial period?
3 months. Out of experience, we learned that putting it in a company for a shorter period, doesn't really work. You will need to change your fulfillment flow a bit. And that requires a few weeks of 'getting-the-hang-of-it'. And of course, we're there for you during the whole period. Alsof afterwards.
  • What is corrugated?
Corrugated (or in our case; corrugated cardboard) is a type of cardboard, made of paper, with flutes inside. When looking on the side of a sheet, you can see one or more wave-like parts in it. It was invented two centuries ago and still is one of the best ways to pack, stock and transport goods. On top of that, since it is paper, it can be fully recycled. And it has good natural temperature protection.
  • Do you deliver corrugated with your service?
Yes. One of the reasons why we are not instantly delivering the Slimbox service everywhere in the world, is due to the delivery of corrugated. Since this material is not very expensive, yet takes in a lot of space in a truck, you need to source it locally. For that reason, we work together with corrugated suppliers in the areas where we deliver the Slimbox. And we make sure that you always receive your corrugated when needed. We deliver a number of standard types and size of corrugated, both sheets and fanfold. But everything is possible.
  • What is the price of a pallet?
We follow the market prices and always openly show them to our customers. If you doubt if this is something for you, why don't we sit together, run over your current numbers and show you your ROI? That way you can make a calculated decision.
  • Do you deliver corrugated sheets or fanfold?
Both. Though we deliver a number of standard sizes and types, which cover almost the whole market, we do allow for personalization. Just ask us what you need and we'll get you fixed.
  • Which type of corrugated do I need?
When you start renting one of our solutions, we get in contact with you personally. We want to fully understand what your needs are and how you would like to implement the solution into your business. During that assesment, we select the perfect type of material(s) for your business. This really depends on the products that you send out.
  • What happens with the waste on the sides?
Anyone who makes boxes, creates waste, however small it may be. That is due to the shape boxes have. But those leftovers can be 'shredded' into filler material, which can serve as extra protection for breakable goods. And if that is not interesting for your business, you can also simply give it back to us, when we bring you new material. We'll put that virgin corrugated back into the mill and make new paper and corrugated from it. Hence, nothing goes to waste and everything is recycable.
  • Is maintenance included into the price?
Yes. When you rent our solution, maintenance or repair (when used according to our instructions) is included. One less worry for you :) Of course there are some basic things you need to do yourself every now and then, but nothing that is hard or very time consuming. And we'll show you very clearly how and what to do. You don't need to be a technician. We understand that cut-off times are very important to you. Therefore we made the Slimbox very stable and low in maintenance. That has been one of our top priorities when developing the Slimbox.
  • What happens when my Slimbox breaks?
First of all, we want to tell you that we have never had any really broken machines before. That is because bill them very stable. But to make it even better, we have really built the Slimbox in such a way that the most critical part of the machine can simply be replaced in a matter of minutes. Allowing you to always deliver what you promise to your customers. On top of that, we keep track of what happens with your machine. That way we can estimate when things will start to wear down or might even fail. And specifically for that reason we do temporarily and preventive maintenance. At no extra cost for you! We absolutely understand the importance for you to be able to deliver your products in time. So we make sure we never become the bottleneck in your organization.
  • What is the largest box that I can make?
Well that depends on your imagination. The width of the Slimbox is 101.6 cm / 40 inches. The length is well... endless. If you feed your Slimbox with a corrugated sheet of 100 x 150 cm, it can cut a box with dimensions of 35 cm x 35 cm x 60 cm. But thanks to its fanfold feeder, you can make incredibly long boxes. What is the largest object that you want to pack? We wrote an article about why it's hard to tell you what the biggest possible box is. But there is also a way to combine a number of different sheets... And then, the possibilities are endless.
  • Does the Slimbox require maintenance?
Yes, however little. It is a machine and by standard all machines need some kind of maintenance. The Slimbox was specifically designed to keep maintenance to a strict minimum.
  • How about fire safety?
Slimbox has been subjected to a rigorous fire risk assessment. The machine is extremely safe as long as the user respects the rules described in the manual. However, if you want to be absolutely sure that nothing can go wrong, it is possible to install an optional stand-alone fire extinguisher. This means that even when the machine is not connected to any power outlet, it would still extinguish a fire.
  • How long does it take to cut a box?
A good size box takes about 30 seconds. However, it really depends on a number of variables: - The type of corrugated you use (not only the thickness) - The size of the overall box. If our cutter needs to travel longer distances, it takes longer. - The type (model) of box you are making. Some have only a few simple lines, others are more complex. Which means the laser needs to travel longer distances. Would you like to get a demo?
  • Is the Slimbox safe?
Yes. We have not only followed all the CE safety regulations, we have also added extra safety sensors and solutions. Safety is our biggest concern. Not doing so could cost us our entire company. Parental supervision is required for children under 18.
